It’s almost here. After years of chest puffing, trash talk, graffiti warz and everything in between, at high noon Saturday the LA Galaxy will take on LAFC at an atmospheric StubHub Center. The inaugural match up between the two LA MLS clubs is overflowing with drama, intrigue, just about everything you could possibly ask for.
Except for one thing: A glitzy name.
A few names have been tossed out, there but none have really managed to stick. So here’s the deal: LAG Confidential is going to run a poll and use the winner. Vote for the name you like best.
Pros: A clever play on La Liga’s famed El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid, its topical, revelant and four syllables. Easy.
Cons: Too Euro-y
The Battle of Los Angeles
Pros: When you’re got a chance to immortalize Rage Against the Machine, you’ve got to take it right? The foursome are also a local band so there’s that.
Cons: Eight syllables. We’re Americans, we like our language short and profanity-laced. Also Zach de la Rocha wouldn’t sue for copyright infringement, but Tom Morello might.
Pros: Very Euro-y, which as we have to remind ourselves is a thing.
Cons: Same fans like this name, but its generic, boring and probably coined by a boring, generic guy. If you even considered this name as a tangible idea for half a second, re-think your world perspective.
Battle of the 110
Reddit Galaxy user Obligatious came up with this brilliant name.
“I’m not a fan of European or English imitation if we can avoid it - so how about Battle of the 110? It’s got a reference to local boys, Rage Against the Machine, it uses the uniquely SoCal thing of calling our freeways “the”, and both stadiums are just off the 110, AND the 110, along with going through the heart of LA, is the first major freeway in the entire country (and we are known for our freeways).”
What is your preferred name for the Superclasico sequel?
