It’s been a good Tuesday for fans of the original LA club.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is officially back for 2019, a fan favorite in Juninho is returning, and it now appears the man who was arguably the most consistent defender last season is coming back.
Corner of the Galaxy’s Josh Guesman is reporting Dave Romney has agreed to a new three-year contract. Here’s an excerpt from the full piece which can be found HERE.
His new deal will be for three years and reward the defender with a well-deserved raise. The MLS Players Union listed Romney’s compensation at just under $75,000 for the 2018 season. In 2019, CoG has learned, Romney will make nearly double that amount and put him slightly over that of central defense partner Dan Steres, who earned just over $132,000 last season.
It’s a deserving raise in pay for the consistent jackknife of a defender who can operate at left and center back. Only when Romney and Daniel Steres were paired centrally last season was order temporarily restored to the Galaxy back line.
The deal is also another positive step for newly minted GM Dennis de Kloese who clearly has wasted little time getting to work.
