Bruce Arena told reporters that Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan would be available for this fifth round US Open Cup match in Carolina, and that the club was taking the tournament seriously. The proof is in this starting lineup for the Galaxy's second Open Cup match of the year with both taking place during MLS' World Cup break.
Robbie Keane starts up top with Gyasi Zardes, as the team looks not only to advance in the tournament but to regain fitness ahead of this weekend's match against the San Jose Earthquakes. Arena has also reverted to the diamond, with Juninho start underneath the forwards and Kenney Walker as the holding midfielder. Landon Donovan begins the match on the bench.
Robbie Rogers remains the left back of choice, while Arena hasn't quite settled on an "Omar Gonzalez on International Duty" pairing. Leonardo starts with Kofi Opare tonight.
This is a lineup that should advance past Carolina easily, and not doing so would be a cause for concern. Advancing would mean LA gets to host a quarterfinal match against one of the MLS Texas clubs, the first time the Galaxy would host an Open Cup match since 2010.
