LA Galaxy potential US Open Cup pairings

The US Open Cup is only two rounds in, but there's already been a fair share of drama. The potential fourth round pairings for the LA Galaxy have become clearer, while the LA Galaxy II continue into the third round. Taking place as the World Cup begins, the US Open Cup fourth round could see weekend matchups for the first time in the MLS era of the tournament.

LA Galaxy II find themselves facing PSA Elite after the San Diego Flash had to forfeit when unable to find a suitable location to host their second round match. The Flash had previously gotten a free pass in the first round when SC Corinthians USA had to forfeit due to player registration issues.

In many ways, this is the reality of the lower rounds of a Cup which remains open to all registered levels of US soccer. PSA Elite are an Irvine based club, and be the away side at the StubHub! Center for their match against LA Galaxy II although PSA Elite host US Open Cup matches at the StubHub! Center. Should LA Galaxy II prevail, they will host the Seattle Sounders in the fourth round.

For the senior squad, they await the result of Arizona United of USL Pro hosting Oklahoma City Energy also of USL Pro. With Arizona hosting, a victory would mean the Galaxy having to travel down to Peoria, Arizona for their fourth round battle. Should Oklahoma City prevail, the Galaxy would host the fourth round tie.

LA brass are surely relieved at not seeing Cary, NC as a potential pairing. This year Chivas USA drew that pairing, while the Galaxy drew a more favorable regional pairing. The Orange County Blues lost their second round fixture to Fresno, who now get a regional tilt with Sacramento. The winner there will face the San Jose Earthquakes in the fourth round. With LA Galaxy II unable to face the Galaxy until the final, Arizona is the best the tournament organizers could do.
