The 2021 MLS All-Star Game is coming to Los Angeles on Aug. 25, when they will face a Liga MX All-Star team for the first time. And now, it’s time to help pick the MLS All-Star Team.
The league unveiled a new process this week for selecting the all-stars:
- 12 players will be picked via a vote by fans, media and players. Each of those respective blocs will get 1⁄3 of the total vote weighted for that group.
- MLS All-Star Team head coach Bob Bradley will select an additional 12 players
- MLS Commissioner Don Garber will make two more selections
One of the new wrinkles in picking the All-Star Team this year is that those who vote will make selections for seven distinct positions: goalkeeper, right back, center back, left back, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, and forward/winger. This means fullbacks will actually make the cut this time, instead of the usual trend of the All-Star defense (as well as MLS Best XI) comprised mostly or entirely of central defenders.
You can vote for your MLS All-Star Team now at the league website. Voting will remain open for fans through July 21, so don’t delay.
While many fans are torn on the All-Star Game as a thing, and don’t want to see their team’s players in the big game, it’s pretty obvious that with the LA Galaxy performing well this season they’ll definitely have at least one All-Star selection and quite possibly another one or two beyond that. It’s not only an honor for the players but the Galaxy selections won’t have to travel at all this year for the festivities and they usually get a financial bonus from it, too. So regardless of your picks, make them now!
