LA Galaxy suffer another 2-0 loss

Early red card, video review haunts Galaxy.

LA Galaxy’s winless run stretches to nine consecutive matches, as they fall to the Columbus Crew SC 2-0 at Mapfre Stadium.

The early red card to Ashley Cole (who was sent of 17 minutes into the match) really put the Galaxy in a bind throughout the night.

Three minutes after Cole’s sending off, VAR was called into action for the second time. This time, it turned a Jonathan Dos Santos foul on the edge of the area into a penalty kick to Columbus. Jon Kempin, though, came up big and stopped Federico Higuain.

Shortly after, Dave Romney appeared to have pulled the away side ahead. However, once again, the video referee assistant overturned it, as Joao Pedro was apparently offside.

Then, right before the halftime whistle, the Crew took the lead. Pedro Santos slid Ola Kamara in behind the disjointed back line to make it 1-0.

With 13 minutes remaining, Kempin gave up the Galaxy’s second penalty of the night. But just like he did in the first half, the 24-year-old stopped the spot kick, this time from Kamara.

The dagger tonight came from Justin Meram in the 89th minute. For all of his effort, there was no way Kempin was stopping Meram’s strike.
