The deal is done, as the LA Galaxy announced on Thursday they have signed forward Dejan Joveljić from Eintracht Frankfurt. Joveljić will occupy a U22 initiative roster slot, and has signed a deal through the 2025 MLS season.

“Dejan is an exciting, goal-scoring forward who is amongst the brightest talents in Europe,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese in a team statement. “We are thrilled to welcome Dejan to Los Angeles and look forward to his contributions to the club.”

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan from Eintracht at Austrian club Wolfsberger AC, scoring 20 goals in 46 appearances, a good scoring rate. He’s also played on loan at Belgian giant Anderlecht, and began his career at Serbian giant Red Star. Joveljić is a full Serbian international, making his debut earlier this year at that level.

Joveljić is expected to play as a No. 9, which means we may see a formation change if he plays alongside Chicharito. While Greg Vanney is known for his tactical flexibility and has played two strikers a few times this season, the coach has mostly played one central striker this season. However, between injuries and fixture congestion, we may see rotation at the No. 9 as much as we see both strikers playing together. We’ll see what happens.

But Joveljić is a player with plenty of promise who looks like he is setting up to be a core member of the squad for years to come, or if he really catches fire, fetches a profit in a future transfer back to Europe. Hopefully he’ll come good in short order.
