Yes, this was a lot of games in a short span. Yes, the LA Galaxy were shorthanded. Yes, it was hot. That said, 1 point against teams that sit in the Western Conference cellar is not a good week. The Galaxy badly need reinforcements (specifically, Séga Coulibaly and Chicharito) and very much look like the walking wounded.
This was a frustrating first half where the Galaxy had the better play to start the game, but got beat on 1 play. Then the wheels fell off, and the dog days of summer hit. A series of poor defensive plays put them down 2-0 at the half, and they kept it up to start the second half.
The Galaxy have to hope that the revolving door at center back stops, and that Derrick Williams reclaims the form he started the league with. It’s a concern that he hasn’t looked good since he’s come back from his suspension, and fans have to wonder if he’s got a mental block.
To be horribly obvious, the Galaxy are a sieve right now, and they won’t be able to pick up points until they shore up the back. That includes Bond who looks far from suave 007 these days.
Lastly, 3 shots on goal. Woof. When does Vanney give up on Cabral?
Player Ratings
Okay
- Sacha Kljestan - whiffed on a shot set up by Vásquez in the 10th minute. Dictated the offense with decent passing in the first half. Man of the Match
- Samuel Grandsir - lovely cross in the 5th minute that deserved a finish. Curled a shot just past the post in the 7th minute. Looked gassed at the 50th minute.
- Víctor Vázquez - faded as the game wore on.
- Rayan Raveloson - invisible.
- Julian Araujo - lovely defense on a counter to start the game, and he even prevented a corner kick. Earned a yellow card for a retribution shot in the second half.
- Ethan Zubak - nothing monumental.
- Augustine Williams/Nick DePuy/Daniel Aguirre - game was over by the time they came on.
Poor
- Jorge Villafaña - not super involved in Dallas’s goals, but the defense still gave up 3.
- Kévin Cabral - he played?
- Derrick Williams - nice block in the 29th minute on a counter. Good clearance in the 43rd minute. Got beat with a bad jump on Dallas’s second goal. Good block to start the second half after an errant Bond pass. Beat again by Pepi in the 72nd minute but Bond bailed him out.
- Daniel Steres - passed through on Dallas’s first goal. Beat on the fourth by pure speed, and injured himself to boot.
- Adam Saldaña - earned a yellow card for a trailing arm in his attacking third (aka, not smart). Beat on Dallas’s first goal, and coughed up the ball on Dallas’s third. The promise that everyone talks about? Don’t see it.
- Jonathan Bond - A couple of bad decisions this game, and a late dive on Dallas’s third goal. His worst game this season, brought him down to earth.
- Danilo Acosta - earned a yellow card for a yank in the 83rd minute, giving up a freekick in a dangerous spot.
