The LA Galaxy will open their 2021 MLS regular season on the road Apr. 18, for their first-ever meeting against Inter Miami, in a marquee TV broadcast scheduled for 12 pm PT, airing on ABC and ESPN Deportes.
In addition, the Galaxy’s home opener will come a week later, Apr. 25, when they host the New York Red Bulls at Dignity Health Sports Park. Kickoff of that game is scheduled for 2:30 pm PT on FS1 and Fox Deportes.
The news comes as MLS released all of the home openers for the 2021 teams on Wednesday, with the rest of the season schedule expected to drop in a couple weeks.
LA didn’t play Miami or the Red Bulls in 2020, since their first two opponents of the season were fellow Western Conference foes and the coronavirus pandemic cut out intraconference play for the rest of the season. As a result, this will be the first-ever meeting against Inter Miami, although the teams were scheduled to square off the week the season shut down last year, and it will be the first match against RBNY since 2019.
The Apr. 25 game could have fans in attendance, which would be a novelty after a year away. The actual proportion will probably be quite limited, but we’ll have to see what happens, and having some fans back — as long as it doesn’t lead to more COVID outbreaks — will be good to see as we hope this year will be better than last year.
