LA Galaxy’s Giuseppe Guastella pens emotional note after 2020 eMLS Cup

Time for a well-needed rest.

LA Galaxy eMLS pro Giuseppe “GODFATHER” Guastella participated in the 2020 eMLS Cup Sunday, winning his opening match before falling in the quarterfinal round to eventual finalist Chris Holly of New York City FC.

Guastella has been a fixture for the Galaxy since they embarked on eMLS, but after Sunday’s tournament, the player released a message sharing the emotional turmoil he’s dealt with of late.

“This year has been a challenging FIFA year from my infamous PK miss, Covid-19, to my Dad and grandma passing away. Being the oldest pro FIFA player in the world can be rewarding and challenging at the same time. Since the birth of the eMLS I’ve made every staged live event. I’ve finished in the quarterfinals or better, [except] for Philadelphia League Series One, I was very sick during the event and received news my grandma became ill and a few days after passed away.

“From now till the release of FIFA 21 a lot of things can happen, but for now I will take a long needed break from FIFA 20. From the bottom of my heart I would like to say grazie to all the people that supported me especially to all the haters that fueled me. Sorry DAD I couldn’t take this [year’s] eMLS Cup, but don’t you worry something bigger will come up.”

I think the only thing to say is to tell Giuseppe to get that rest — you deserve it. And condolences on your recent losses. Stay strong.
