The LA Galaxy announced Thursday they have signed midfielder Kai Koreniuk to a first-team contract. The 22-year-old played for LA Galaxy II in 2019, and was the USL Championship team’s player of the season.
“Kai is a developing player who we have seen progress with LA Galaxy II since joining our club,” said LA Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese in a team statement. “We are confident Kai can continue to grow as a member of our first team and will provide valuable depth to our squad. We are pleased to add him to our roster.”
Koreniuk is a Florida native of Dutch roots, and began his professional career in the Netherlands, playing for the youth teams at Vitesse and AZ Alkmaar. He’s also got one competitive appearance with the Galaxy, last season when he played in Leagues Cup for LA’s first team against Club Tijuana.
An attacking player with Los Dos, Koreniuk will likely be a versatile depth option for LA, while also likely to see the field for the Galaxy at the MLS is Back Tournament. LA will kick off their slate in the competition in Orlando against the Portland Timbers on July 13.
