We finally know the MLS is Back Tournament group stage schedule, which dropped Wednesday afternoon, and now we know the road for the LA Galaxy. The MLS restart competition is scheduled to take place in Orlando July 8-Aug. 11.
The Galaxy will open group stage play on Monday, July 13 against the Portland Timbers, at 7:30 pm PT. That match will air on FS1 and TUDN.
Then, on Saturday, July 18, they’ll take on El Trafico rival LAFC in one of the competition’s most anticipated games. That game is scheduled for 7:30 pm PT on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.
LA will wrap up group play on Thursday, July 23 against the Houston Dynamo, at 5 pm PT, on FS1 and TUDN.
Initial impressions are happiness the Galaxy avoided a 6 am game (that’s a thing!) and that the big rivalry game isn’t first. While LA have the upper hand on LAFC historically, starting from square one with a mentally taxing derby out of the gate is a lot to ask a team that’s been off for four months, and it makes more sense to have another game under the team’s belts before moving on to the showdown.
So now we know the road for the Galaxy, as long as everyone can stay safe and healthy enough to make it to the tournament, etc. Mark your calendars and get ready for the return of MLS soon.
