LA Galaxy’s odds for MLS is Back Tournament revealed

You’re probably not going to like them.

The MLS is Back Tournament is inching closer, and with the LA Galaxy in training to get ready for the trip to Orlando (if the coronavirus doesn’t surge that spot into oblivion, etc. etc.), the odds for the tournament are out.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Galaxy are 11th favorite, which by itself doesn’t sound too bad — it’s been a few bumpy years, the team is trying to get back atop the perch of the league — but consider the team just ahead of them is the San Jose Earthquakes. Yes, the Quakes, who have missed the playoffs six of the last seven years, and who are coming off a much worse loss in their last game than the Galaxy suffered, are ahead of them in the opening odds.

Making it worse, perhaps, is that with the Galaxy at +2000 in the odds, the favorite coming in is LAFC, who are at +350, well ahead of the rest of the pack. Second favorite are Toronto FC, at +900.

Still, it could be worse: Both FC Cincinnati and Nashville SC are given the longest odds, at a whopping +8000.

I think there’s a good case to be made for a lot of teams in this competition, absolutely including the Galaxy, but with a three-game group stage and then a four-round knockout phase, mistakes have to be at an absolute minimum for a team to make a deep run. Can the Galaxy do that? Sure. Will they? We’ll see.

But if you’re looking to test your luck, putting a bet down for the Galaxy isn’t the worst idea in the world, if you can afford it.
