After last week’s euphoric triumph over LAFC, four days later a LA Galaxy squad of veterans, depth signings and Los Dos regulars topped Club Tijuana in penalties. For the senior squad Saturday’s trip up north (7:30, FS1) to battle a Timbers side unbeaten in five is a major oppurtunity to prove El Trafico IV wasn’t just a one-off.
What to watch
“The risk is higher on the turf. And I tried to play on the turf in Portland, and I felt very bad.” - Zlatan in 2018 on the Providence Park surface
Will Zlatan play? After escaping punishment for a violent collision with defender Mohamad El-Munir, we’d like to think so. It’s how he performs on the surface that’s up in the air.
Bossing the midfield? The Timbers will be without midfield general Diego Chara, whose presence will sorely be missed: Portland hasn’t won a match without Chara since 2015.
Just watch out for that counter. And of course, mercurial striker Brian Fernandez.
