LA Galaxy Orange County Women are UWS Champions

LA OC Women

What’s the only thing better than beating LAFC? Winning a trophy.

Catarina Macario scored the game winner in the 72nd minute as the LA Galaxy OC women’s team bested Calgary Foothills Sunday afternoon at Mount Royal University to take home the 2019 United Women’s Soccer crown.

The breakthrough came off a moment of direct play: Having cleared the ball under pressure Foothills had failed to clear their lines, and off a throw-in the Galaxy back line had time and space to float a long ball over the top for Macario, and the Stanford product calmly slotted a finish past the keeper to give LA a lead they would not relinquish.

In just their second year of existence, the LA Galaxy Orange County women’s team is a second-division side featuring former USWNT standout Natasha Kai among others. We look forward to more coverage (and hopefully a more robust Twitter presence) for next season.
