This afternoon the LA Galaxy announced the signing of veteran MLS defender Sheanon Williams. The 28-year old who had been training with LA recently is now a permanent member of the club.
Known as a hard-nosed defender, Williams can also contribute in the attack, posting seven goals and 27 assists during his eight years in the league. (The former Philadelphia Union man is also equipped with a powerful long-range throw-in that could serve the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic well)
To make room for Williams the Galaxy bid farewell to Emrah Kilmenta, who departs with two league starts to his credit.
“Sheanon is a player that adds valuable MLS experience to our backline at a position of need,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid. “We believe he will bolster our right back position and we are excited to add him to our roster. We thank Emrah for his contributions and wish him the best of luck.”
Williams will be available for selection when the team faces the Portland Timbers in the Fifth Round of the U.S. Open Cup on Friday, June 15 at 8 p.m. PT.
