Jonathan dos Santos made his debut, but after LA’s go-ahead goal was waved off by VAR, the Galaxy ultimately fell to the Portland Timbers 3-1 Sunday morning at Providence Park. The loss was the first defeat in Sigi Schmid’s second tenure with the Galaxy.

Jack McIerney received a rare start while Jermaine Jones was paired alongside Joáo Pedro once again.
Portland went ahead in just the 5th minute when lax defending allowed a corner kick to bounce unchallenged in the six-yard box, and Liam Ridgewell headed home with ease to frustrate LA early.
But the Galaxy would equalize immediately when Emmanuel Boateng ran onto Joáo Pedro’s through ball and tucked a low finish from a narrow angle past goalkeeper Jake Gleeson.
The Timbers would put the game away early in the second half off a beautiful sequence: Fanendo Adi backheeled to Alvas Powell who easily beat a helpess Rowe from point-blank range.
