Sigi Schmid has announced his starting XI for the match against New York City FC, and there’s a surprise in there.

Because of a knock late in the week during training, Giovani dos Santos will miss out on tonight’s action.

Brian Rowe, though, will start tonight’s match in between the sticks. He’ll hope that his defense will be more compact against a dangerous attack.

With Jelle Van Damme still out, the back line remains unchanged. If G. Dos Santos had been healthy, Jermaine Jones most likely would have slid into a central defense role.

Joao Pedro and Jones, however, remain unchanged in the middle of the park for the reasons mentioned above.

The attacking midfield is where things get interesting. Emmanuel Boateng is back in the starting XI on the opposite side of Romain Alessandrini. And Jona Dos Santos gets his first Major League Soccer start; it’s a shame that he won’t get to experience it with his brother alongside him.

Finally, up top, is Gyasi Zardes. Yes, he had a goal ruled out last weekend, but does that breath confidence in him? We’ll have to wait and find out.

Kick off is just over 30 minutes away. Make sure to keep following along tonight for all the action!
