Clement Diop receives Senegal call up

LA Galaxy goalkeeper called up for Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match

MLS: Portland Timbers at Los Angeles Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Congrats Clement!

The relatively young Galaxy keeper has been called up by the Senegal National Team for a pair of games, a friendly vs. Uganda on June 5th in Dakar before a Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match vs. Equatorial Guinea on the 10th.

The goalkeeper will depart from the Galaxy following the team’s match next Saturday, May 27 on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes. Diop will return to Los Angeles on June 11.

Diop, 23, joined LA Galaxy II in 2015 before signing an MLS contract with the LA Galaxy at the end of that season. During his time with the club, Diop has been a standout goalkeeper in the USL in addition to making seven starts for the LA Galaxy, including five starts this season, while making 29 saves in MLS play.

The Galaxy are in action this Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m. PT when they face Minnesota United FC on the road in what will be the first matchup between the two sides (ESPN, ESPN Deportes).

Proud to be called with the national team. The lion is back home . Edit: @futeditz10
