ESPN FC have released their inaugural MLS Power Rankings for the 2017 season, and the Galaxy are No. 11 on the list, good for 6th in the West behind the Seattle Sounders, FC Dallas, the Colorado Rapids, Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City.
11. LA Galaxy Gyasi Zardes is set to miss the start of the season, and now the back line has been hit by an injury to Ashley Cole. With so much change in L.A. -- manager Bruce Arena is gone, as is veteran Robbie Keane -- there's potentially reason for concern.
A middle-of-the-road ranking seems fair enough for a squad that is loaded on paper but has a significant number of question marks:
-What is LA’s offensive identity? We won’t know for sure until Gyasi Zardes recovers from right knee surgery.
-After trading AJ DeLaGarza and letting go of Leonardo coupled with injuries to Robbie Rogers and Ashley Cole, the Galaxy are suddenly paper-thin in defense. How will the Galaxy deal with what could become a crisis at right back? Rafael Garcia has not looked convincing in the role.
-Can the older veterans in their mid-30’s keep up the entire season? So far so good for Jermaine Jones, but will the U.S. international be able to stay fit after two injury-ravaged seasons?
What do you think?
