LA Galaxy axe five players from roster

Jack McBean, Nathan Smith, Raul Mendiola and the Villarreal brothers have been cut

After announcing this morning that Robbie Rogers has retired from professional soccer, the Galaxy have released five more members of the LA Galaxy.

As you can see, the always reliable Kevin Baxter has confirmed Jack McBean, Nathan Smith, Raul Mendiola and the Villarreal brothers are no longer with the club.

On the one hand, its shocking and a little sad to see the end of the road for the likes of Jack McBean, Jose Villarreal and Raul Mendiola, all of whom spent considerable time with the club and showed glimpses of talent for the first team and Los Dos but were unable to put together consistent performances.

On the other hand the Galaxy roster has desperately needed a proper housecleaning for some time, and these moves are a positive first step towards replenishing the squad while opening up valuable LA Galaxy II roster spots for up and coming academy talents.

What do you think of today’s roster cuts? Too soon, or not soon enough?
