A meeting between the last two MLS Cup Champions sets up a must-watch game at Providence Park on Saturday. The Portland Timbers play host to the LA Galaxy in a Western Conference battle.
Galaxy manager Bruce Arena deserves some credit for going with a competitive side in the US Open Cup during the midweek. But following a 4-2 win over the Seattle Sounders, things are only going to get tougher for the Galaxy. Bruce Arena’s side face the complex challenge of travelling to Cascadia to take on the current MLS Cup champions, who are unbeaten in their last nine league games.
The Galaxy could also be taking on the champions without both Ashley Cole and Steven Gerrard. Both former England internationals are questionable and will be game-time decisions on Saturday.
If there is some silver lining, however, the Galaxy have already beat the Timbers once at Providence Park this season. They are also in a positive run of their own, unbeaten in their last five league games.
With two teams in great form, this creates the opportunity to see what is on paper one of the most attractive match-ups of the week.
