Liverpool talking to Steven Gerrard over Anfield return?

Gerrard linked with return home in coaching role

Our Liverpool FC affiliate The LIverpool Offside is reporting that LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has allegedly been in talks with Liverpool FC about a possible return to the club following the end of the MLS Cup playoffs, when it is widely expected Gerrard would depart Los Angeles.

According to reputable journalist Paul Joyce at the Express, Gerrard could potentially assume a coaching role.

The midfielder has not announced his retirement from playing as yet, while the exact role with Liverpool is still being discussed, but Gerrard has previously worked at academy level when starting his UEFA badges.

Jurgen Klopp is certainly welcome to the idea.

“Steven Gerrard – and this will be a really big surprise – is always so welcome at Liverpool,” said Klopp.

“Everything we will talk to each other about will stay in these talks. That is how I know Stevie and that is how I am.

“Nobody should be worried that we don’t have space for Steven Gerrard. Everything will be fine, 100 per cent.”

If the news is true, its hard to fault Gerrard for wanting to return home, but unfortunately the timing is suspect. After all, the playoffs are the wrong time to have your mind focused elsewhere.
