The LA Galaxy have announced that they have partnered with DeskSite, a local digital media company based in Irvine, to create a new interactive video app geared towards large screens.
Galaxy DeskSite promises to deliver hours of premium, high-definition Galaxy video content for free. Content will include, game highlights, postgame recaps, player and coach interviews, and more. According to the service, over 95 videos will be available on launch. Videos are automatically downloaded and stored directly to users' devices, allowing instantaneous video playback, free of buffering.
"Our supporters consume LA Galaxy videos as they are released, and are accustomed to accessing LA Galaxy content via the latest, most advanced technologies, both in- and out-of-stadium," said Chris Klein, President of the LA Galaxy. "Our partnership with DeskSite allows us to continue to enhance the fan experience by delivering exciting, high-definition content to our fans in a seamless and user-friendly way."
We talked to Megan Bennett, Marketing Director at DeskSite, about this new service.
LAGC: The Galaxy are already one of the better MLS teams when it comes to producing content. Will this app mark an uptick in content and can fans expect the same high level of production quality?
We have recognized that the LA Galaxy produces some of the best content, not just in the MLS, but throughout all of professional sports. We are incredibly excited to deliver LA Galaxy fans every second of the LA Galaxy content in a true HD, 1-to-1 viewing experience.
LAGC: How much of the content will be exclusive to the service?
The Galaxy DeskSite is intended to be the most comprehensive platform for LA Galaxy video content, providing fan access to the full LA Galaxy & LA Galaxy II video library. Fans can now consume content the moment it's available, thanks to proactive alerts, which notify them whenever a new video arrives. New content channels exclusive to LA Galaxy fans via the Galaxy DeskSite will be explored in the coming seasons.
LAGC: Will it support Chromecast so fans can watch on the big screen?
The Galaxy DeskSite is designed exclusively for "big screen" devices, such as desktops, laptops, smart TVs, game consoles and tablets; accordingly, anything that can display your Windows or Mac desktop on your TV (wired or wirelessly) will work with the Galaxy DeskSite. Additionally, we are currently developing products for Xbox One and Xbox 360, and will be rolling out applications for Roku & Apple TV in the coming months. Chromecast, however, is not supported at this time, as content plays within the Galaxy DeskSite app itself rather than the Chrome web browser.
Fans can download the Galaxy DeskSite at www.galaxydesksite.com.
