For the third straight tournament, the LA Galaxy will reach the quarterfinals in CONCACAF Champions League after defeating Cartagines 3-0 at Estadio Nacional in Costa Rica Wednesday night with a group of mostly reserve players. Jack McBean, Chandler Hoffman, and Laurent Courtois were the scorers on the night as the Galaxy pelted the Cartagines goal early then defended in the second half.

The Galaxy are the second team to qualify for the knockout stage, with Club Tijuana first. LA still have one more CCL match, at Isidro Metapan who have only earned one point in the tournament thus far.

The LA starting lineup didn't feature a designated player, but the mixture of homegrown and reservists got the job done. McBean shook his marker on a set piece then headed in the Rafael Garcia cross. McBean put in a cross that Chandler Hoffman was able to send into the net. Laurent Courtois sent in a left footed rocket from distance.

The team now travels on to Portland where they'll be joined by the players who didn't travel.  Arena said after the match that he didn't want to risk Landon Donovan who did travel with the team, but that he's hopeful Donovan will be involved in Portland.
