Robbie Keane and Jaime Penedo get international call-ups

The LA Galaxy's Robbie Keane and Jaime Penedo have been called up for international duty in the upcoming FIFA window. Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez are also expected to be called up.

Following LA's game Saturday night against the San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy captain Robbie Keane and goalkeeper Jaime Penedo will leave to join their respective national teams for a pair of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in September. Keane will join Ireland for a pair of games against Sweden and Austria while Penedo will represent Panama in games against Jamaica and Honduras.

That rules out Keane and Penedo from the LA Galaxy's home match against Colorado Rapids on September the 7th. It's a strong possibility that when Jurgen Klinsmann announces his US lineup in the next few days, Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez will join their teammates on international duty.

That's a significant part of the core unavailable, with spurned Carlo Cudicini, young Jose Villarreal, Tommy Meyer, and Jack McBean, will all likely be called on to fill significant roles. Depending on Robbie Rogers' status come that weekend, Arena may have to get quite creative with his starting lineup.

Ireland will host Sweden in Dublin on Friday, Sept. 6 before travelling to Vienna to face Austria on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Ireland will close out the group in October with games away to Germany and home to Kazakhstan. Panama host Jamaica in Panama City on Friday, Sept. 6 before hitting the road to take on Honduras on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
