The LA Galaxy have had a bad habit of conceding goals after the 76th minute all season long. The trend continued in Portland on Saturday and the Galaxy lost 2-1 to the Timbers on Andrew Jean-Baptiste's 94th minute goal.
The bright spot for the Galaxy was Marcelo Sarvas' fourth goal of the season. The sequence that led to the goal was also good but didn't happen often enough as the Galaxy's attempts on goal were roughly halved from recent outings. Sean Franklin raced up the wing, passed to Hector Jimenez who then crossed into the area for Sarvas' headed goal. Sarvas scored on his only attempt of the match, committed two fouls and drew three fouls for a Match Impact Rating of 85.
Jimenez picked up his second assist of the season on Sarvas' goal. Jimenez also took one shot which was on target, committed one foul and suffered one foul in 75 minutes of action for a 48.3 MIR. Robbie Rogers had a solid game with a MIR of 37.9 on one shot attempt, two fouls committed and three fouls suffered in 70 minutes. Franklin rounded out the notable performances for the Galaxy with a good MIR for a defender of 29.5. Franklin took one shot in addition to the assist and committed two fouls.
We'll know if Sarvas has done enough to impress and land a spot in Peter Vermes' 18-man MLS All-Star game-day roster on Monday. So far from the Galaxy, only defender Omar Gonzalez is on the All-Star roster as a Fan XI selection.
