The LA Galaxy and Tottenham Hotspur played to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match at The Home Depot Center Tuesday night. 25, 676 fans packed the stadium in Carson, many of them hoping to get glimpses of the likes of Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart. What they got is pre-season form Tottenham, and a Galaxy reserve style match.
The Galaxy were able to equalize in the 29' off a broken corner kick. Bryan Gual restarted the play on the left, switching the ball over to the right. Marcelo Sarvas brought it down finding Hector Jimenez on the end of the play who was able to send in a sliding cross that David Junior Lopes received all by himself and smashed in.
Spurs got the opening goal in the 17' with a brilliant long pass sequence. Gylfi Sigurdsson brought down the first cross from about the halfway line. Sigurdsson then found Gareth Bale inside the penalty area. Bale was marked by Omar Gonzalez, but was able to jump up over the defender to notch a nice looking header.
Juninho and Josh Saunders were held from the squad by coaches decision, but the Galaxy had some friends return as well. Omar Gonzalez started and went just over sixty minutes. Pat Noon, Mike Magee, Chad Barrett, and Andrew Boyens were all available for selection for the first time in a dogs age. Who among them will see their status change on the next injury report will be of some interest.
There were also signs of the future, as Jose Villarreal and Jack McBean were the forwards starting in the second half. The youth movement continued with Tommy Meyer, Bryan Jordan, Rafael Garcia, and Kenny Walker all seeing time.
