LA Galaxy II get long runway to 2021 USL Championship season

Can Los Dos take advantage of that time to become a force this season?

LA Galaxy II have kicked off their 2021 preseason training camp this week, with head coach Junior Gonzalez back for his second full season in charge, and as always he’s got a tricky brief leading the USL Championship side.

Los Dos remain a developmental squad for the LA Galaxy, and with just two pro signings announced so far this year, the roster is likely to be made primarily of teens from the club’s academy and loanees from the first team. Right now, the team’s roster page lists seven players.

Still, with Galaxy II’s season not expected to start until around May 1, and this squad able to start training as a team before even the MLS team this year, they’ll get a very long runway to gear up for the new campaign. And with 2020’s impressive showing, in which they made the playoffs in arguably the toughest group in the league, showed Gonzalez is capable of getting results while also developing players as a group.

Gonzalez spoke about starting preseason in a video produced by the club earlier this week.

I think given how this team will get over two months to prepare for the new season, the rest of the USL Championship will need to be up for every game Los Dos has, because it could be another season where the youngsters show everyone else how it’s done. Time will tell, of course, but it could turn out to be another fun year for Los Dos.
