Robbie Keane has finished his career as a player and has thrown himself into a coaching career, serving as an assistant for the Republic of Ireland national team and English Championship side Middlesbrough in recent years.

This week, he was asked by soccer broadcaster Kevin Egan on his podcast “Kickin’ Off with Kevin Egan” if he wanted to become LA Galaxy head coach one day, and the legendary striker was enthusiastic in his interest...one day.

“Down the line? Yes, absolutely. I said the LA Galaxy is a team that I absolutely love. The people there are great. The country itself I love, my family loved it there, my little lad was born there, Hudson. So it’s certainly a place that means a lot to us, [there] five and a half years.

“Of course, why not? As I said, I’m a student of the game, I’m learning, I’m always reading, I’m always studying people.”

Guillermo Barros Schelotto is just three games into his second season as head coach of the Galaxy, and while this season hasn’t gotten off to a good start, he does not appear to be on the hot seat right now.

But we know this club loves their former players coming back to take on new roles, and with Keane interested in managing, this seems like something that could very much happen one day. As he said, this is a move he’s interested in eventually, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Galaxy are also interested one day. Time will tell.
