Vote: Best LA Galaxy jersey, 2003-08

Pick the best from the golden era.

After the opening years of the LA Galaxy’s existence, when they were trying things out when it comes to jerseys, after their first MLS Cup title in 2002 things settled down and the Galaxy found a look.

Continuing our series on jerseys for jersey week here at SB Nation, let’s take a look at the second chunk of Galaxy jerseys, from 2003-08, and then you can vote on the best from the era at the end.

The saaaaaaaaaaaaash. The iconic look for the Galaxy makes an appearance, with gold becoming the primary color for the first time, and the deep green slashing across the front of the jersey. I’m partial to sashes, but this is a good one.

This white secondary with the two-tone sash is reminiscent of a more recent design in Galaxy history. A lot to love with this one.

The 2005 primary has one big update, and it’s an important one, changing the primary font for “Galaxy” on the front to white, to make it more legible. The other one doesn’t look so bad until you see this in contrast, and then this one looks substantially better.

This is a Nike kit, as they were in this era, but this is another jersey that has massive echoes to the more recent sash kits for the Galaxy. A classic design.

Evolution, not revolution here, with the sash getting border lines when the Galaxy changed to Adidas and the famous three stripes being splashed all over.

MLS - Los Angeles Galaxy vs Real Salt Lake - August 30, 2006

In another look that I think is criminally underused, the single vertical stripe makes an appearance here. I would like to see this brought back every so often as a secondary design.

Ok, here’s where things get really weird by MLS jersey (middle period) standards. The Galaxy were the first club to wear a jersey sponsor, using the still ubiquitous Herbalife, but this above jersey was a placeholder for the first half of the season.

And then, transformation complete. When David Beckham joined the Galaxy midseason, LA chucked out their old crest, their old color scheme and brought these babies into the world, all in the middle of the campaign. This represented the point in Galaxy history when the white kits became their primaries moving forward.

The alternate wasn’t used much, but the deep navy with yellow accents is quite nice.
