Another day, another homegrown signing for the LA Galaxy, as the club announced on Friday they have signed midfielder Jonathan Perez to a Homegrown Player pro contract.

Perez, 17, is a native of Pico Rivera who has been in the Galaxy academy system since 2016. Currently the youngest player on the Galaxy first-team roster, Perez has been a goal-scoring midfielder who has experience through virtually all of the age groups.

“Jonathan has been a bright prospect in our Academy and we think he is ready to begin his career as a professional,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese in a team statement. “We believe he will continue progress in his career with the Galaxy. We look forward to Jonathan learning and growing in our professional environment.”

Perez is the second homegrown signing this week for the Galaxy, joining forward Cameron Dunbar’s addition on Thursday. Like Dunbar, Perez will likely serve as depth for the first team this year and is more likely to see playing time in the USL Championship for Los Dos. If he can impress on that level? Anything can happen, as they say.
