Chicharito scores, does LeBron James’ “Silencer” celebration

Is the real Chicharito emerging?

To say it’s been a difficult season for Chicharito would be an understatement, but the LA Galaxy forward nearly led his team to a win Wednesday, and connected with another Los Angeles sports superstar in the process.

With the Galaxy needing a win and results elsewhere to go their way to keep their faint playoff hopes alive, Chicharito came off the bench and broke a scoreless deadlock against the Seattle Sounders in the 78th minute on Wednesday.

Then, to celebrate his second goal of the year and first in Los Angeles as a member of the Galaxy, Chicharito did Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James’ “Silencer” celebration in the empty Dignity Health Sports Park.

Ultimately, Chicharito had a shot to make it 2-0 after that, and he slipped as he shot. In stoppage time, the Sounders equalized to make it a 1-1 draw in the end. Unfortunately, even if LA had won, they were still eliminated from playoff contention with results elsewhere going against them.

Chicharito now has two goals for the season for the Galaxy, in 11 appearances. While that’s not the return anyone was hoping for from the star acquisition, it looks like he’s not ready to give up on his Galaxy tenure, and with the season finale Sunday against Vancouver, he can potentially end the season with another goal to give a glimpse at what’s possible next season.
