LA Galaxy exit interviews: What We Learned

It’ll be an interesting winter

MLS: MLS Cup Playoffs-Round One-LA Galaxy at Minnesota United FC Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Wednesday’s exit meetings at Dignity Health Sports Park came and went without any major bombshells dropping, but there was plenty of new information to digest.

A decision of Zlatan’s future will be made in the coming weeks

Dennis te Kloese firmly denied the notion the club have moved on or considered moving on from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The LA Galaxy GM confirmed Ibra has other options on the table, but as of now the club plans to sit down with Zlatan to dicuss a return.

Zlatan does have offers (primarily in Serie A), but are they better than the prospect of another year as the villain of MLS? We’ll see.

Jona dos Santos is locked up.

Until 2021.

As expected the club also confirmed Argentine international and Boca Juniors loanee Cristian Pavon will return next season along with Joe Corona and David Bingham.

Uriel Antuna’s future is less certain

The young attacker who’s international career with El Tri took off this summer would prefer to remain in LA on loan for another season, but clubs like Benfica and Chivas are inquiring into permanently acquiring Antuna from Manchester City. According to Dennis te Kloese the club has the right to match any offers for Antuna, but if a Mexican club wants to pay top dollar for the 22-year old he may be forced to depart.

Finally the club has until November 21st to exercise a contract option on defender Diego Polenta, though from reading DtK’s comments there’s a high probability the Uruguayan returns.

With CBA negotiations looming this winter, it’ll be interesting to observe what the organization does in the off season.
