Benfica, Chivas interested in Uriel Antuna?

MLS: MLS Cup Conference Semifinals-LA Galaxy at Los Angeles FC Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

It didn’t even take a day following the LA Galaxy’s playoff exit for the rumor mill to start churning.

A new report by ESPN’s John Sutcliffe claims Chivas de Guadalajara are seriously interested in bringing the 22-year old onboard. The pacy attacker contributed six goals and five assists this 2019 season on-loan from Manchester City and new sporting director Ricardo Peláez would like to purchase his rights. Antuna recently extended his contract with the Cityzens until 2022.

Meanwhile across the pond Goal reports Portuguese powerhouse Benfica also holds interest in the Mexican international. You would assume attention from big clubs would spell doom for the Galaxy organization, but it’s been quietly known for some time Antuna is happy in LA and eager not to disrupt his budding national team career.

Sources also tell Goal that the Santos Laguna product has adapted well to life away from the field in Los Angeles, and would like for directors from City and the Galaxy to work together on another loan deal with the player already feeling comfortable in MLS.
