Mission accomplished. With several Galaxy starters out of this game including Romain Alessandrini, Jonathan Dos Santos, Ashley Cole and Ola Kamara, the team needed to be conservative to preserve a point, and it did exactly that. In fact, even better, LA started the game without being scared, led possession for chunks of time, and had a couple of chances to even win (oh Ema, those finishes). But that's being greedy. With only 6 players on the bench (and two of them goalkeepers), taking a point out of this game was exactly what the doctor ordered. With the LA derby around the corner, the Galaxy also didn’t want to risk anyone on Vancouver’s turf surface.
The ratings reflect an organized, solid, not spectacular game. Again, that is okay, and that is exactly what Sigi Schmid wanted. In particular the defense kept a clean sheet even with a new personnel group and a rookie.
Job done. Now start dreaming about #zLAtan...
Player Ratings
Good
Ariel Lassiter - Good movement in the first 15 minutes, just missed a tap-in in the 51st minute. Looked eager and had better passing than we’ve seen from him in awhile.
Dave Romney - Was beat a few times down the left, but always recovered.
Thomas Hilliard-Arce - For a first outing, we’ll take the clean sheet. Kept Kamara onside on a critical play where Kamara nearly scored, and had a few mistakes leaving him “broken” ankles, but overall, he managed to emerge unscathed.
Servando Carrasco - Had a few decent balls and won a few battles in midfield.
Perry Kitchen - Earned a tactical yellow, and gave up a dangerous free kick in the 59th minute, but his physicality was appreciated.
Daniel Steres - Stood up Davies a few times, and had last ditch saves with a well placed boot. Fell down against Kamara in the second half leading to a Vancouver chance, but luckily Kamara shot wide.
Jorgen Skjelvic - I kept looking up to see him aptly ushering the ball out of danger as the last defender. Best game from him yet.
David Bingham - Excellent save in 39th minute after Hilliard-Arce kept Vancouver onside. Couple of other sure grabs and punches.
Okay
Emmanuel Boateng - Sent in a nice cross in the 51st minute, but LA couldn’t maximize. Then rushed his shot and missed what looked like a sure goal on a ball over the top in the 57th minute. Burst forward in the 64th minute only to cross wide.
Sebastian Lletget - Not the creative force we know he can be, but seeing him get extended time (and the Captain’s armband) was a positive.
Rolf Feltscher - Davies left him for dead a few times, and he also earned a dumb yellow card it a fit of frustration in second half. That said, he did send in some dangerous crosses and was involved in the small amount of LA Galaxy attack.
Chris Pontius/Baggio Husidic - Late subs brought on to control the game.
Man of the Match = Jorgen Skjelvic who had a solid night playing defense and showing off his CB trade.
