LA Galaxy vs. Chivas USA: SuperClasico match predictions

Taking a look at the scouting report on LA Galaxy vs. Chivas USA, it's extremely likely that we'll see LA score on a counter. Read on to see what else to expect in the SuperClasico matchup.

USA TODAY Sports

This rendition of the city Derby sees two MLS sides looking to get that spark back facing off inside StubHub Center, with the LA Galaxy on seven points in the last six matches and Chivas USA on an extended losing streak. We're gonna take a look at the Who Scored scouting report to see what we can expect to go down.

The good news for the Galaxy against Chivas USA is that Who Scored has the Goats down as very weak defending against the counter attack. Given that LA are very strong on counter attacks, they have it as extremely likely that LA will score on a counter attack. Last week against Portland it was just very likely, and still the Galaxy's lone big chance came on a counter begun by a halfway line recovery.

If there's a concern, it's that Chivas' lone strength is their ability to attack down the wings. Defending against attacks down the wings happens to be one of LA's weaknesses along with defending aerial duels. Getting Omar Gonzalez back will alleviate some of the aerial duel threat, but getting beat on the wing is still a concern.

LA have other strengths that Who Scored rates as very weak for Chivas. Through balls are affective against the Chivas defense, and Chivas' defensive tendency to play inside their own half works toward LA's desire to control the match in the opposition half.

My prediction for the match is 3-1. I see two goals coming for the Galaxy off counters involving Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, and one set piece goal with Robbie Rogers finding Omar Gonzalez. Chivas get a late goal down the right side, but it isn't enough.
