Rumor: LA Galaxy to sign Serbian forward Dejan Joveljic

Sounds like the club is not done shopping.

The LA Galaxy have transformed their roster more than pretty much any team in MLS this season, and recent reports indicate the signings are not yet done.

European transfer rumor maven Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday that the Galaxy have a “done deal” with Serbian forward Dejan Joveljic.

Meanwhile, Corner of the Galaxy reported after Romano’s report that the deal on the Galaxy’s end is not quite done but looks likely to happen.

Joveljic, 21, is under contract at German side Eintracht Frankfurt, a club that’s had some real success in developing young forwards in recent years. After making his pro debut with Serbian power Red Star in 2017, he won two league titles there before moving to Eintracht in 2019. The youngster didn’t get a ton of playing time in Germany, going on loan to Anderlecht in 2020, and then to Austrian club Wolfsberg last season, where he scored 19 goals in 44 appearances, a good return. Joveljic made his debut with Serbia’s senior team this summer.

A 4 12 year deal on a European youngster in MLS is a very long deal and one that’s yet to pay off with a huge transfer fee earned on the back of it, but perhaps this is the player to break the mold. At any rate, I think the hope is that Joveljic will help get the ball in the net for LA and give Greg Vanney’s attack another weapon on offense.

As for whether this is happening, Romano doesn’t do many MLS rumors but this has been previously percolating in the European press, plus Corner of the Galaxy is certainly reputable in their transfer rumor reporting, so I think this is pretty likely to be announced soon. Stay tuned.
