If you have a bit of money to spend, want to contribute to relief efforts during the coronavirus pandemic, and are looking to get some sports gear, you’re in luck. AEG announced this week that several teams, including the LA Galaxy, and other local arts events, will be selling limited quantities of merchandise at discounted prices, with proceeds benefitting various critical needs in the community and the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles.
At the Team LA Store, you can find all manner of gear for the Galaxy, as well as the Lakers, Clippers, Sparks, Kings, Ontario Reign, and swag from Coachella and the Grammy Awards. You can also directly donate to the Mayor’s Fund if you don’t want anything.
Among the Galaxy offerings, there’s some good stuff in there. While the jerseys and shirts are currently sold out, there’s some cool scarves for cheap and a bunch of random things that are at a good price.
According to the release announcing the initiative, teams will replenish their offerings on the site, which means you’ll have to look back pretty regularly to find new items and something you may want to get. Since the items are in limited quantities, you don’t want to wait to buy something.
While my colleague at Jewels from the Crown made a good point that we don’t know how much AEG and the various team owners are donating themselves to relief efforts, versus how much fans are contributing and how much the proceeds of gear purchased goes to fundraising, I do like this plan to do a garage sale of old and random gear, discounting it and putting it toward a good cause.
