Zlatan Ibrahimovic breaks LA Galaxy single season scoring record

MLS: Sporting Kansas City at LA Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Carlos Ruiz in his day was a sight to behold.

That glorious 2012 LA Galaxy team that won MLS Cup after a number of failed attempts shared some similarities with Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s current iteration. The late Sigi Schmid’s Galaxy were an attacking force capable of brilliance on their day, but the team were reliant on the goalscoring heroics of the Guatemalan national team striker to help LA steal a number of late results and ultimately put the club over the top. With 24 goals in regular season play, Ruiz’s record stood tall for some time.

All good things come to an end however, and who better to break the record than a footballing superstar in Zlatan Ibrahimovic? The big Swede scored a stylish hat trick vs. Sporting Kansas City Sunday night to lift LA into 5th place in the Western Conference playoff race. Ibra now has 26 goals this campaign, smashing the record with four matches remaining.
