LA Galaxy at Portland Timbers match preview: What to watch, projected starting 11 and TV schedule

Open Cup!

MLS: Portland Timbers at LA Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The LA Galaxy battle the Portland Timbers in the Round of 16 of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at...a less than opportune time.

Yes, the blue white and gold have managed to sneak into Providence Park and eek out an Open Cup victory before, as Bruce Arena’s side did back in 2016. That being said, LA’s challenge is formidable.

What to watch

The seeds of doubt have been sown. It’s understandable to doubt the Galaxy’s chances in this contest. Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s team travel to Portland without midfield maestro Jonathan dos Santos, hat trick hero Uriel Antuna and Giancarlo Gonzalez to name a few, and it is still unknown whether Zlatan will participate.

Look for the Galaxy to field a lineup similar in spirit to the starting XI which comfortably defeated OCFC in the 4th round.

Brian Fernandez. The Argentine DP cost Merritt Paulson nine figures to pry from Necaxa and so far he’s been a bargain: Four goals in three league matches and a brace to put the Timbers over the Sounders in Open Cup play.

LA need a plan to contain the mercurial attacker or goals will be leaked.
