Once billed as the future of the midfield when the organization paid Vitória a $1.5 million transfer fee for his services, the bouncy-haired João Pedro did not live up to expectations. An increasingly peripheral figure in the lineup after Sigi Schmid replaced Curt Onalfo as manager, João Pedro only played 85 minutes in 2018 before eventually heading to Greek club Apollon Smyrnis on a six month loan.
The central midfielder briefly participated in pre-season, but once again finding himself surplus to requirements, João Pedro will now go out on a year long loan to a side in his native country, freeing up an international spot in the process.
