As we discussed not long ago, with a short window before the 2019 season kicks off the duo of LA Galaxy GM Dennis te Kloese and manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto don’t have much time to restructure the squad. Rather, it would be ideal for the club to hold onto their attacking talent while prioritizing defensive reinforcements.
That being said, there is word out of South America that Uruguayan center back Diego Polenta could be teaming up with GBS in LA. The 26 year-old with Serie A and Copa Libertadores experience is an intriguing if risky prospect: Polenta captained the squad at one point but left Nacional six month ago and hasn’t played a competitive match since.
(If you’re getting Michael Ciani flashbacks, it should be noted Marcelo Biesla’s Leeds and AC Milan had strong interest in the defender recently)
ALERTA....!!!

Will this rumor pan out? We’ll keep you updated.
Edit: The Athletic is reporting negotiations are underway but the deal is not yet complete. Interestingly, Polenta would arrive on a loan with an option to buy despite leaving Nacional six months ago.
