LA Galaxy fall to San Jose Earthquakes 4-2 in preseason tune-up

Ola Kamara scores a brace as the Galaxy attack continues to show promise

Ola Kamara celebrates

On a picture-perfect afternoon the Galaxy attack looked lively before LA succumbed to a pair of soft goals, falling 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Orange County Great Park.

Sigi Schmid put out a full-strength starting 11, however it was David Bingham who showed his quality early, stoning former teammate Danny Hoesen from close range then minutes later pushing another dangerous opportunity from Hoesen wide.

Romain Alessandrini almost put LA ahead when he got free on the right flank, but from a narrow angle the winger could only find Kamara for an unsuccessful bicycle attempt. In the 31st minute Ola Kamara beat goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell but his shot was cleared off the line by Shea Salinas.

The Norwegian international would not be denied again when Emanuel Boateng slipped Kamara through and the newcomer quickly fired a low finish under the outstretched leg of Andrew Tarbell and in.

San Jose quickly equalized when a poor Giovani dos Santos turnover led to an awkward Chris Wondolowski shot that Bingham saved, but the ball still tricked past the goal line.

Romain Alessandrini and Rolf Feltscher had close calls to end a entertaining first 45 minutes. The second half wasn’t as kind: Tommy Thomson’s diving header off a rebound gave San Jose the lead before a David Bingham clearance inadvertently ricoched off Fatai Alashe into Bingham’s net to give the Quakes an undeserved two goal advantage.

LA got back in it when Ola got on the end of an Ashley Cole cross, but Tommy Thomson would secure a brace of his own from point-blank range in the 90th minute to hand the Galaxy their second loss of the preseason.
