Free agent Chris Pontius, formerly of D.C. United and the Philadelphia Union, has officially signed with the LA Galaxy.

A product of UC Santa Barbara, Pontius was drafted by the capital club in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. He spent seven seasons there, playing in over 150 matches while scoring more than 30 times.

After his stint with United, the Yorba Linda native moved on to the Philadelphia Union for a year. During his only season with the Union, Pontius tying a MLS career high in goals, scoring 12 (he added two more in the U.S. Open Cup).

Here is what Sigi Schmid had to say of his new signing:

“Chris is a proven and experienced player in our league who can bolster our roster immediately. He is a Southern California native who will be a valuable addition to our squad both on the field and in the locker room. We look forward to him joining the team as we begin preseason training.”
