On Sunday, the Los Angeles Galaxy awarded Giovani dos Santos with the Player of the Year award following their 0-0 draw with FC Dallas. Dos Santos did have an impressive season, scoring 14 and assisting 11 times. He’s improved leaps and bounds since last year, and is becoming a more complete player.

But, Jelle Van Damme should have won Player of the Year, and would have had it not been for Gio’s brother (Jonathan) tweet, urging people to vote for him.

Jelle Van Damme has been instrumental in defense this campaign. He’s a monster in the back line, and while defending set pieces inside his own box. Where JvD shines, though, is when he picks up a free ball and heads into the attack. He becomes a weapon that opposing defenses has to deal with, while also dealing with everyone else.

So, here at Confidential, we were unhappy with him not winning the award, and because of that, we created our own Player of the Year.

The results are in, and well, it is not even close. You voted for Jelle Van Damme in a landslide victory.

Off the 166 votes received, JvD won a whopping 65% of the votes. Next closest was the Galaxy Player of the Year, Giovani dos Santos.

Jelle Van Damme will not be satisfied with this, however, there’s still an MLS Cup to fight for.
