Robbie Rogers, Rafael Garcia, Jose Villarreal sign new deals

Trio of LA natives earn contract extensions

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

After Monday's announcement of Alan Gordon returning to LA, more positive news has arrived for Galaxy fans.

This afternoon the LA Galaxy announced that defender Robbie Rogers, midfielder Rafael Garcia and forward Jose Villarreal have signed contract extensions.

All three players, born in Los Angeles, were a part of the team’s fifth and most recent championship, the 2014 MLS Cup, while Villarreal and Garcia also were a part of the Galaxy's 2012 MLS Cup-winning squad. Rogers returns to the Galaxy for his fourth-consecutive season and Villarreal and Garcia enter their fifth years with the club.

Villarreal has always been a dangerous attacking asset for the Galaxy when healthy, and Rogers has the left fullback spot locked down. (Though there have been ramblings he could play on the right this year should the long rumored signing of Roma left back Ashley Cole take place) Rafael Garcia provides quality depth in the midfield alongside new free agent pickup Jeff Larentowicz.
