Ever since Guillermo Barros Schelotto was announced as the new LA Galaxy manager, a number of Argentine players have been linked with moves to work with the former Boca Juniors boss.
Now news has emerged that Schelotto is interested in River Plate midfielder Ignacio Fernandez, another player GBS has wanted to sign since his days at Lanus. A 29-year old attacking central midfielder, Fernandez would certainly be a welcome addition to a Galaxy attack that lacks a pure creative option in the middle of the park.
That being said, is this a legitimate rumor? On its own merits, it’s a long-shot: LA have four Designated Players and little cash to spend. If the organization was dead-set on acquiring Fernandez however, they could either sign him to a TAM deal or move two DPs. The organization does not have the ability to lower Romain Alessandrini’s salary below the DP threshold, so the club would likely have to move both dos Santos brothers.
Stranger things have happened. We’ll keep you updated.
