LA Galaxy drop in Week 12 MLS Power Rankings

Despite another road win, LA still fall

MLS: Los Angeles Galaxy at Minnesota United FC Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Most of the time, I generally agree with the Power Rankings. There’s a reason we exclusively use the league’s table versus an aggregated formula: It’s the most reliable.

Well, not this week. For some reason, consecutive road wins weren’t enough to impress the Power Rankings politburo, as the Galaxy dropped a spot into 16th place.

The confidence is almost all the way back for a team missing two starting-level center mids (Jermaine Jones & Baggio Husidic). It’ll feel as if the 2-5-0 start to the season never happened if they can beat the Quakes in San Jose on Saturday.

The blurb is sufficient, but this week’s rankings still aren’t receiving the LAGC Seal of Approval. After winning in New York last weekend, LA came into Minnesota and recovered from losing Baggio Husidic early to gut out a complete performance. Giovani dos Santos scored a potential Goal of the Year, the Galaxy walk away with all three points on the road, and yet LA fall in the standings. C’est la vie.
