The LA Galaxy embark on a four-game road-trip, starting with a coast to coast battle with New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on Sunday.
As ever, there is good news and bad news. The good news for the Galaxy is they are unbeaten in their last two games. The bad news is that it is only two games. The Galaxy are currently in their best run under coach Curt Onalfo, as inconsistency has wrecked havoc this season for the five-time champs.
Of course, it is still early on the season, and you have to have believe the Galaxy still harbor some sort of playoff ambition. That said, believe it or not, we are getting past the first third of the season, and the clubs at the top are starting to build a sizable gap. As such, points are needed fast, but the Galaxy shouldn’t expect an easy ride from the Red Bulls, who currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with 16 points.
But if there is a time to beat the Red Bulls, it is now when they are at their most vulnerable. Jesse Marsch’s men arrive on the back of two straight defeats, and if the Galaxy can find a way to hurt New York, perhaps they can pick up some positive momentum away from home. At the end of the day, momentum is something the Galaxy desperately need.
